How I Deal With Hair Loss

It's hard to remember a time when I wasn't concerned about thinning hair. I think I was about 9 when it first became concerning (that's how long I've struggled). I have tried so many things and I finally feel, at 31 years old, that I have a good routine that's helping my hair grow and get thicker.

I'm going to be honest and say that the biggest change I made before noticing a reduction of hair loss was quitting my job as a lawyer. My hair stylist had been telling me every time I went to see her that I need to get the stress out of my life because that will help with the shedding. I would always say that I am trying my best, which I was. I was trying everything I could without having to quit my job. But the last job I had was so hard on me that my hair loss got really bad in the short time I was there.

Aside from that major lifestyle change, I have gotten into a routine that I feel has made my hair feel thicker and grow healthier. I follow Dr. Adel on TikTok and Instagram and her advice changed the way I take care of my hair.

I oil my hair 1-2x/week, wash it 3x/week, take vitamins, and use some other things to help. I've noticed the growth mainly because I dyed my hair about a week into my most recent lawyer job. I haven't gotten it touched up because it's really expensive so my roots are quite grown out as I'm writing this. As odd as it may look, it's been a good guide in seeing the results of all the changes I've made to grow my hair and make it stronger and healthier. Over the years, I've taken advice from my hair stylists, social media, and my own research.

Here are the products that are currently in my routine and what I do with them:

Oil Before Washing

Shampoo

Conditioner/Treatment

  • K-18 - https://bit.ly/4jhvVaT - Follow the instructions and you'll notice a difference! I tried it a few years ago and wasn't good about that so I didn't think it was worth the price BUT I have seen a difference over the last 2-3ish months since I began following the instructions

  • Ranavat - https://bit.ly/4mnqmu9 - I use this conditioner 2x/week on the days I don't use K-18

  • Oribe Mirror Rinse Glass Hair Treatment - https://bit.ly/4dt42vb - My ends get dry easily, so I use this after the Ranavat conditioner 1x/week but you can just apply it after shampooing. Run it through your hair and let it sit for up to 1 minute before rinsing out. Makes your hair soft and shiny

  • Colorwow Dreamcoat - https://bit.ly/3Zpvcxa - I use this 1-2x/week before blow drying. It acts as a heat protectant and gives your hair a little shine

  • Kerastase Elixir Ultime Refillable Hydrating Hair Oil- https://bit.ly/44OYHMw - I usually use this before blow drying my hair or after curling it

Other Things I Use That Have Helped

  • Nutrafol - https://amzn.to/3FmcPm2 - I'm trying to be better about consistency with these but I've still noticed a difference compared to other hair growth supplements I've had over the years (Hairtamin, Sugarbear Hair, and other gummies)

  • Red Light Therapy - https://amzn.to/3ZxpitV - Expensive but it helps. I got the one with the portable battery attachment so I don't have to sit next to an outlet for 25 minutes. But that's all it is. 25 minutes/day (if you're consistent, which I try to be) and it helps
